Penelope Douglas has firmly cemented her spot as one of my all-time favourite authors, and Hideaway only solidifies that. The unique darkness, the intense intrigue, and the suspense she creates in this series is unparalleled—it’s like no other. The Devil’s Night series stands in a league of its own, and I’m so here for it. To be honest, I wasn’t looking forward to reading Hideaway at first. I went in absolutely loathing Banks, but by the end of it, I was completely obsessed—not only with Banks and the storyline but with the entire dynamic of her and Kai as a couple. Their connection is powerful, deep, and undeniably magnetic. Kai and Banks truly are the definition of soul mates, and their journey together was both raw and intense. If you haven’t already delved into Penelope’s work, you’re seriously missing out—get on it ASAP!
“We’re only ever good, because there are consequences,” I told her. “Take those away, and everyone shows their true self. Kind of like taking off a mask.” “Or putting one on,” she replied. “After all, there’s freedom in hiding, isn’t there?”

The obsession is real, and it’s no surprise why—Hideaway has completely consumed my mind! I am beyond invested in this series; it’s all I think about. From the suspense to the romance, and the plot twists that left me breathless, this book had it all. Banks seriously carried this book on her back, and I adored every second of her fierce strength and vulnerability. And then there’s Kai—my soft spot for him is undeniable. Every moment with him had me swooning! But let’s not forget Damon—he was absolutely the star of the show for me. He still gives me chills, even after all this time. His dark, twisted brokenness is so captivating; I’ve got a soft spot for him, but damn, he still scares the hell out of me. Penelope has such a gift for making even the most complex, morally grey characters unforgettable.
“I never make mistakes,” I replied. “I’m either right or I’m learning. Jaku niku kyo shoku.” I recited one of the many Japanese sayings he’d spouted over the course of my life. The weak are meat, the strong eat.”

This book was everything! I couldn’t put it down—I was absolutely obsessed. The chemistry between Kai and Banks was absolutely FIRE. 🔥 Their interactions were so electric, and the slow burn leading up to their connection was pure perfection. The angst? Chef’s kiss—it was exactly what I didn’t know I needed. The plot twists and character development were out of this world, and honestly, I don’t think there was a single thing I didn’t love about this book. Penelope Douglas has a way of drawing you into a world you can’t escape, and Hideaway is no exception. If you haven’t read this series yet, I highly recommend picking it up ASAP—you won’t regret it!
“No matter how you cover yourself, it’s never enough. You’re beautiful.”
