Okay, I get the hype.
This book was absolutely beautiful, from beginning to end. The writing was stunning, filled with so much heart and emotion that I felt every single word deep in my chest. It was the kind of story that sneaks up on you, wrapping itself around your heart until you don’t want to let go.
The connection between Ellis and Lucky was magnetic, the kind of slow-burning, soul-deep love that makes you ache. Their relationship was filled with so much yearning, tenderness, and unspoken words that it felt like every glance, every touch, held a universe of emotion. I was completely swept up in their world, in their history, in the quiet but powerful love that had been simmering between them for years.
What really stood out to me was how beautifully the emotions were portrayed. You feel Ellis’s longing, his quiet heartbreak, his devotion to Lucky even when he tries to move on. And Lucky? He was impossible not to love, wild, free-spirited, and yet somehow deeply tethered to Ellis in a way that neither of them fully understood until they had to face the truth.
This book had my heart in a chokehold. It was raw, tender, and so incredibly moving. If you love stories about best friends-to-lovers, years of pining, and emotions so intense they seep into your bones, then you need to read this.
“I knew it then, and I know it now. He’s a firefly. Luminous and wild. He was never meant to be trapped. Not here and not with me.”

To Catch a Firefly is such a heartwarming, emotional story that completely pulled me in. The chemistry between Ellis and Lucky was incredible, the kind of connection that feels undeniable, like they were always meant to find their way back to each other. Their love story was filled with longing, deep understanding, and an unspoken pull that made every interaction between them feel electric.
The writing was absolutely beautiful, capturing both the quiet moments of yearning and the intensity of emotions that built up over the years. Ellis and Lucky felt so real, like two people who had always been intertwined, even when life tried to pull them apart. Their journey—from best friends, to something more, to navigating all the unspoken feelings between them, was filled with so much heart.
This was only my second MM read, and I loved every single moment of it. It was emotional, tender, and so incredibly well-written. If you’re looking for a book that will make you feel every moment of love, heartbreak, and hope, I highly recommend giving this one a read!
“Have you ever wanted someone so much,” I say slowly, “that it feels like your atoms are vibrating when you’re away from them? Like you’re half of a whole, and your body knows it. And until you’re in their arms again, every single piece of you is straining toward them because…because they’re your home. They’re part of you. Your beginning and your never-ending.”
