I picked up Medicine Man during a tough reading slump, and while I didn’t love it as much as I’d hoped, I think that had more to do with my mood than the book itself. As someone who loves forbidden romance, this story delivered everything I crave in the genre. The psych ward setting was incredibly unique and gave the story a fresh, intriguing backdrop I’ve never encountered before.

Dr. Simon Blackwood, aka the Ice King, is the ultimate broody, swoon-worthy male lead. He’s dark, enigmatic, and impossibly hot, with an air of mystery that keeps you hooked. And let’s not forget the glasses—🔥. Willow, the female lead, has her flaws, and I occasionally found her immaturity frustrating, but her passion for Harry Potter and all the little references added such a relatable and endearing layer to her character.

Overall, Medicine Man is an intense, forbidden romance that pulls you into a unique world with complicated characters and sizzling chemistry. While it wasn’t a perfect read for me, it’s one I’d still recommend to fans of the genre.

“You make me believe. In magic. In fairy tales. In fate. In falling and rising. In the fact that I can do it. I can be what and who you need me to be. You make me believe I was born for you.”

🤍 AD -

Medicine Man dives deep into the forbidden and taboo with a psychiatrist-patient romance that’s intense, mysterious, and brimming with emotion.

Willow’s story begins in Heartstone Psychiatric Hospital, where she’s battling her inner demons and hiding secrets she can’t bring herself to share. Then there’s Simon Blackwood, her psychiatrist, who sees right through her defenses. He’s protective, patient, and driven by a need to help, but what makes Simon special is that he doesn’t try to “fix” Willow. Instead, he helps her find her own strength, showing her she’s a fighter who can face life’s challenges head-on.

The chemistry between Willow and Simon is electric, and their relationship is as intense as it is forbidden. This book is everything a taboo romance should be—raw, emotional, and impossible to put down. If you’re a fan of age-gap romance, forbidden love, and complex characters, this book is a must-read. Saffron A. Kent has a way of crafting unforgettable stories that linger with you long after the final page.

“Because I was born with more than blood in my veins. I was born with strength. I was born with courage to fight. I'm a warrior.”

💙 AG -

This was my second time reading a book by Saffron A. Kent, and I really enjoyed it. She has a gift for creating forbidden, age-gap romances filled with slow-burn chemistry, emotional depth, and just the right amount of angst. Medicine Manwas no exception—it had everything I love about the genre.

Dr. Simon Blackwood is the definition of a perfect male main character. He’s dark, brooding, and completely swoon-worthy, yet his protective side makes him stand out. Willow’s character was harder for me to connect with at times due to her occasional immaturity, and there were a few moments that felt a bit cringey. That said, her vulnerability and resilience made her an engaging character, especially as she navigated the psych ward setting, which added a unique and compelling layer to the story.

The emotional highs and lows in this book are beautifully written, and Saffron Kent doesn’t shy away from exploring the heartbreak and healing that comes with love in the most forbidden of circumstances. If you love angst-filled, taboo romances with complex characters and intense chemistry, Medicine Man is a story you won’t want to miss.

“I met you and every thought I had became yours.”

Medicine Man by Saffron A. Kent is a gripping, emotional journey that explores forbidden love, healing, and resilience in the most unexpected of settings. With its unique psych ward backdrop, intense chemistry, and unforgettable characters, this book is a must-read for fans of taboo romance.
