Summary:

A Love Letter to Whiskey is an emotional, intoxicating, slow-burn romance that spans more than a decade, a story about two people who always seem to find each other at exactly the wrong time. From a clumsy first meeting to years of stolen moments, heartbreak, desire, and undeniable connection, Brecks “B” Kennedy and Jamie Shaw navigate the messy, imperfect reality of loving someone your soul recognizes long before the timing ever lines up.

Their bond is magnetic, their chemistry is electric, and their story is a raw exploration of longing, pain, self-growth, and the brutal honesty of “right person, wrong time.” Kandi Steiner delivers a heart-wrenching masterpiece that captures the chaos of love that never lets go — no matter how much life gets in the way.

WOW. This book wrecked me in the most beautiful, agonizing way. I haven’t felt this emotionally gutted since reading Maestro, and honestly… A Love Letter to Whiskey might have just claimed my top spot for best romance I’ve ever read.

What made this book so powerful was the timeline, ten years of love, heartbreak, missed chances, and growing up. Watching B and Jamie’s lives twist together, tear apart, and collide again was like being on a rollercoaster with no brakes. And the angst? Some of the best I have ever read. It wasn’t just tension,  it was longing down to the bone.

This is the ultimate “right person, wrong time” love story, and that’s a trope I usually avoid. But Kandi Steiner wrote it so beautifully, so honestly, that I found myself savoring every heartbreaking, frustrating, intoxicating moment.

Jamie and B’s connection is the definition of magnetic. Their relationship felt raw, messy, painful, and real. I’ve never loved two characters so much while also wanting to scream at them every other chapter. Their timing never seemed to align, and I was constantly torn between wanting to shake them and wanting to hug them both.

If I could stand on the tallest building and scream a book recommendation, it would be this one. This book feels like a punch to the chest but the best kind. Pure, devastating brilliance.

“I read romance because it’s fun to fall in love. And with romance books, I get to do it over and over. I get to be different types of lovers, I get to feel the heartbreak of love and the successes. Love is the most powerful and real emotion we feel, and I think it’s sort of magical that we can experience some of the greatest loves of all time through books.”

This book is emotion distilled into pages. Every chapter feels like a bruise you keep pressing because you can’t help yourself. The angst is relentless. The pain is palpable. And the love? Utterly unforgettable.

B and Jamie’s story is the truest form of “right person, wrong time.” They are soul-deep connected, two people drawn together again and again, even when everything in their lives pushes them apart. You feel the tension in your bones. You feel the heartbreak like it’s happening to you.

What I loved most was how human this story was. Their choices weren’t perfect. Their timing was awful. Their emotions were messy and often selfish but that’s what made the story so authentic. Love isn’t always neat or romantic. Sometimes it’s gutting, flawed, and full of mistakes you don’t know how to repair.

Kandi Steiner’s writing is poetic, sharp, and brutally honest. This book is toxic in the way real first loves often are overwhelming, confusing, consuming. And yet, you wouldn’t change a thing.

This is the kind of book that carves itself into your memory. I’m still thinking about it.

“But sometimes, even when we know something is bad for us, we do it anyway. Maybe for the thrill, maybe to cure our curiosity, or maybe just to lie to ourselves a little longer.”

💙 AG -

I knew going in that this book was going to be emotional, but nothing prepared me for how deeply A Love Letter to Whiskey would hit. From their very first meeting, B and Jamie’s connection feels powerful, that kind of spark you can’t explain but instantly believe in.

Watching their relationship unfold over ten years was both excruciating and beautiful. The missed chances, the wrong timing, the love they kept circling back to, it all felt painfully real. Their chemistry was addictive, their bond undeniable, and the tension between them was honestly some of the strongest I’ve ever read.

What stood out to me most was the way this book explored growth. Both B and Jamie had their own journeys: mistakes, heartbreaks, realisations and it made their story feel so layered and honest. The emotional depth was incredible.

If you love books that feel real and raw, ones that show how messy love can be, this is the one. It hurts, but it’s so worth the pain.

“Because that’s what life’s about. It’s about paddling out and fighting the waves until you find the perfect one to ride home on.”

If you’re craving a romance that rips your heart open and stitches it back together one chapter at a time, A Love Letter to Whiskey is the book you need. This isn’t just a love story:  it’s a decade-long emotional storm filled with longing, heartbreak, desire, and the kind of tension that makes you want to pause, breathe, and then dive back in for more. B and Jamie’s connection is messy, intense, and painfully human… and you’ll feel every moment deeply.
