Saturday 10 October, and we finished Love Your Bookshop Day doing the thing this whole shop exists for.
Love Your Bookshop Day is a national celebration of independent bookshops, and as a small romance bookstore and café in Ascot Vale, it's one of our favourite days of the year. We ran 15% off everything, in store and online, all day, then wrapped it up with a Blind Date With A Book swap and bookish crafts night with a group of readers we can't stop thinking about.
Blind Date With A Book, but make it a swap
Everyone bought a book, and then we showed them how to wrap a blind date with a book properly, goodies and all. Once every book was wrapped, everyone swapped with someone else in the room, so every single person went home with a surprise read.
Flowers made from book pages
Next came the crafts. We turned book pages into flowers, which are exactly as pretty and as satisfying as they sound.
Pizza, mingling and new friends
There was pizza, plenty of mingling, a lot of book love being spread around and more than a few laughs. The best part? Watching people from our community walk in as readers and leave as friends. It was honestly so wholesome.

Why this matters
Independent bookshops only exist because people choose them. Every person who came in on Saturday, swapped a book, made a paper flower or just grabbed a coffee is the reason we get to keep doing this. We couldn't have asked for a better way to end Love Your Bookshop Day.
