Brutal Obsession By S.Massery
BOOK 2 IN THE HOCKEY GODS SERIES SERIES
Tropes: enemies to lovers, college romance, bully romance, dark romance, obsessive love, hockey romance, forced proximity, morally grey hero, touch her and die
Summary:
In Brutal Obsession, S. Massery merges dark romance and hockey into a twisted enemies-to-lovers story that hits hard and cuts deep.
Greyson Devereux is the golden boy of Briar University, son of a senator, star hockey player, and adored by all. Everyone but Violet. After a brutal injury he caused, she wants nothing to do with him, but Grey isn’t finished with her. What starts as vengeance turns into obsession as he drags her into the spotlight, forcing her to face him and herself.
This story is filled with intensity, psychological push-pull, and the kind of chemistry that burns despite the pain. For readers who crave darkness mixed with locker room drama and relentless enemies-to-lovers tension, Brutal Obsession delivers it all.

From the first page, I knew Brutal Obsession wasn’t going to be a lighthearted college hockey romance and I was right. This book is dark, gritty, and completely unhinged in the best way.
Greyson Devereux is an antihero through and through - violent, obsessive, arrogant—and yet, I was hooked on him the entire time. His dynamic with Violet is chaotic and intense. What starts as revenge slowly unravels into something darker, deeper, and shockingly addictive.
Violet isn’t just a victim of Grey’s obsession, she’s complex, wounded, and holds her own in a way that makes their twisted connection believable. I especially loved how much tension simmered under the surface in every scene between them. You feel the pull, the hate, the need. It’s raw and explosive.
The ending came out of nowhere and left me needing the next book immediately. Brutal Obsession was cruel, sexy, and impossible to stop thinking about, easily one of my favourite starts to a series this year.
“What he doesn’t know is that he’s been digging his grave in my chest for weeks, and me in his. We’re going to trade one day. My heart for his. An even exchange.”

Mixing two of my favorite things, hockey and dark romance - Brutal Obsession had me in a chokehold. The bully aspect was intense, and I genuinely questioned if Greyson was redeemable in the first half. Spoiler: he is. Kind of. I think? I don’t know what that says about me, but I was into it.
Grey is the kind of character you shouldn’t fall for, he shattered her leg, gaslights her, and is basically out to ruin her—but you still do. He’s ruthless, calculating, and somehow magnetic. His obsession with Violet is unhinged, but it’s written so well you understand it… even if you kind of hate yourself for it.
This isn’t a soft love story. It’s about obsession, pain, and the fine line between hate and need. I flew through it and honestly couldn’t get enough. The ending shocked me, my jaw actually dropped but I do think it could’ve used a bit more build-up.
Still, this book was absolutely addictive, and I’ll be diving into book two without hesitation.
“I don’t care if she catches me staring. She already knows how I feel about her. Obsessed. In love.”

Brutal Obsession completely threw me in the best way. I was expecting a gritty college romance with a hockey twist, but what I got was so much darker and more psychologically intense.
Greyson Devereux isn’t your typical campus heartthrob, he’s manipulative, cruel, and laser-focused on Violet in a way that’s both terrifying and seductive. His obsession runs deep, and it creates a dangerous tension that never lets up.
What I loved most about this book is how emotionally raw it is. Violet’s internal struggle, her fight to keep control while navigating Grey’s twisted games, it felt real. There were moments I hated him, moments I hated her for still wanting him, and yet I couldn’t stop reading.
This book is not for the faint of heart. It’s brutal, bold, and refuses to follow the typical dark romance formula. It stands out, and I’m already bracing myself for what comes next in this series.
“I didn’t give her a choice—and she’s not going to get one. There’s no going back.”
